A fully funded PhD and MSc position is available to work on: Mapping woody invasive alien plant species and their impacts in strategic water source areas

The Agricultural Research Council wishes to appoint a PhD and an MSc student to support the remote sensing component of the MAPWAPS (Mapping woody invasive alien plant species and their impacts in strategic water source areas) Project. The candidates will be registered at Stellenbosch University in the Department of Conservation Ecology & Entomology and will be supervised by Dr Alanna Rebelo, Prof David le Maitre and Prof Karen Esler. The research will involve mapping woody invasive alien plant species and their impacts in a few key strategic water source areas across the country using freely available satellite imagery and cloud computing. This project is funded by the Water Research Commission.

Package: R140 000 per annum for MSc; R220 000 per annum for PhD

Duration: 2 years MSc; 3 years PhD
