Apply for the 2020 SALDi Summer School

Updated: Dec 2, 2019

The SPACES project SALDi will be holding a summer school on Physically Based Soil Erosion Modeling and Coupled Atmosphere-Hydrology Modeling at the University of Pretoria from 30 March to 4 April 2020. There will be two separate courses offered during the Summer School. The first course aims at introducing participants to the physically based soil erosion model EROSION3D. The second course covers the general concept, structure and potential fields of application of fully coupled atmosphere-hydrology modelling, based on the WRF-Hydro modelling system.

Students and early-career researchers with interest in soil erosion and land degradation processes (EROSION3D) and hydrometeorological modelling (WRF-Hydro) are encouraged to apply. A limited number of funded slots (travel & accommodation) are reserved for this course. To apply for a funded slot, please include the following documents in your online submission:

  • Full CV (including list of publications if applicable);

  • Motivation letter, clearly indicating why this course is important for you and how it supports your studies/research;

  • Supporting letter from your academic supervisor (or similar), justifying the need for funding; and

  • Passport copy (for travel bookings).

It is also possible to apply for a non-funded slot, in which case this should be clearly indicated in the application. Please note that the Summer School itself is free of charge, funding is available for travel and accommodation purposes. The application deadline is 15 December 2019 and you can apply here.
