Call for Applications - NRF Postgraduate Student Funding for 2022 Academic Year

The call for applications for NRF Postgraduate Student Funding for the 2022 Academic Year is now open. All information on the call is available on the NRF website and here. Ensure you submit by your institution's internal deadline. Suggested deadlines are given below. Ensure you contact your institution for specific dates.

  • HONOURS Scholarships (FISS/NSFAS): Beginning of November 2021

  • First Time MASTERS Scholarships (FISS/DAAD/SASAC): Beginning of July 2021

  • First Time DOCTORAL (FISS/DAAD/TWAS/SASAC): Beginning of July 2021

  • Nuffic DOCTORAL Abroad (Split - site): Beginning of July 2021

  • SARAO Honours, Masters and Doctoral Scholarships: Beginning of August 2021


Below some of the minimum requirements.

  • For first-time honours funding

A minimum average of 65% for major subjects in the final undergraduate year of study. The applicant must be no older than 28 years of age in the year of application, regardless of first year of registration.

  • For first-time master’s funding

A minimum average of 65% for all subjects at level OR a minimum average of 65% for all subjects of a postgraduate a minimum average of 65% for all final year subjects of a four-year degree. The applicant must be no older than 30 years of age in the year of application, regardless of first year of registration.

  • For first-time doctoral funding

A minimum of 65% at the master’s level. The applicant must be no older than 32 years of age in the year of application, regardless of first year of registration.
