The SAAG is pleased to host a field-based excursion on 24 & 25 September in the eastern Free State. Topics of interest in the vicinity of Clarens and Golden Gate Highlands National Park include soil erosion phenomena, geology and structural control of slopes, sandstone weathering, wetlands, palaeogeomorphology, mass movement, basalt-escarpment formation and mountain climates.
The purpose of the excursion is to demonstrate the rich geomorphological diversity of the area, to provide insights into geomorphic processes and potential human impacts, and to facilitate further in-field discussions on the landscapes of the area.
