Invitation to apply for postgraduate studies at SUN

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Stellenbosch University is a dynamic research-based teaching entity that covers disciplines ranging from geoinformatics (e.g. space science, Earth observation, remote sensing, geographical information systems spatial analyses, and other geospatial technologies), to human geography, urban geography, tourism, physical geography, fluvial geomorphology, climate change, and wetland science.  

The department provides a stimulating environment with a culturally diverse cohort of students and is inviting interested potential doctoral (Ph.D. in Arts or Sciences) and masters (MSc and MA) students submit short research proposals (3-4 pages) detailing research areas and questions, and proposed methods and CVs (2-3 pages), a cover letter and full academic transcripts.


Proposals may be submitted at any time until the 30th of June 2020 to the researcher involved with the specific area of interest or to our Post Graduate Coordinator, Ms. Deidre Davids (deidre@sun.ac.za) directly. Please have a look at the attached document for more information.


Prospective students should meet the NRF criteria and are encouraged to apply to the NRF for freestanding bursaries and to adhere to the SU Internal Closing date.
